Nittany Leathernecks

Gerald Lyons volunteers with the Nittany Leathernecks, a service organization of active, retired and veteran Marines and Navy FMF corpsmen, as well as associate members who served honorably in other service branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Nittany Leathernecks will soon be auctioning off on eBay a unique and wonderful sculpture of a marine and his dog by world-famous sculptor D.M.Z. (Ziggy) Coyle. Click here for more information about the sculpture auction.

The Nittany Leathernecks are currently raising funds for the Colonel Gerald F. Russell Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to the children and grandchildren of Nittany Leathernecks members, as well as the children of any Centre County veteran (regardless of service branch) who is killed or significantly wounded during military engagements taking place since September 11, 2001. Local Rescue Dogs

Lyons Kennels donates facilities to several local non-profit rescue groups, including Nittany Beagle Rescue, Golden Retriever Rescue of Central Pennsylvania, and Beagle911. Lyons Kennels also works with Centre County PAWS and the local SPCA to find homes for homeless animals.

One of the rescue dogs currently staying at Lyons Kennels in need of a home is:

Austin

Hi! My name is Austin and I'm a mature tricolor beagle. I am a sensitive soul. But I'm also very affectionate and loving! Typically, I'm a happy, outgoing dog! My prior family moved and could no longer keep me. So now I'm living in a kennel, waiting for my new family to come and rescue me! I have lived with other dogs and cats, and I'm fine with them. I am possessive over my food with other animals, but I'm fine when I'm eating around humans. (I'm not worried about humans eating my food, but those other animals might!) I am housetrained. When I need to go outside, I will stare at my person. I don't like crates; in fact I will chew the bars if you put me in one. I ride well in the car. You can just put me in the back seat, and I will ride quietly as you drive! I lost one of my eyes in an accident, but I can see fine out of the other one! For more information, please email info@nittanybeaglerescue.org.

Service to Local Law Enforcement

Lyons Kennels works with the Spring Township Police Department, the State Police in Bellefonte, and sometimes the State College Police as a drop-off point for lost and stray dogs. We work with the police to return these dogs to their owners. If the owner cannot be identified, we work with local animal rescue groups to place the dog in a new home.

Nittany Beagle Rescue

Many Nittany Beagle Rescue dogs stay at Lyons while they are waiting for their 'forever homes'.
